Eating the fruits of their labor- Broccoli Greens Salad

I have friends who garden successfully (lucky for me) and who also like to share their harvest (lucky for me). This year everyone seems to have an abundance of broccoli greens, onions, and tomatoes.

Broccoli Greens (Warm) Salad

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 small onion, finely chopped
10-15 leaves of broccoli greens (you can remove the center of the leaves- stalks- if you want a less bitter salad) roughly chopped

10 Cherry Tomatoes, halved
1/8 - 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
Sea Salt to taste

Heat olive oil to medium high; add garlic and onions and saute until brown/tender. Add broccoli greens (leaves) and cover 90 seconds (until leaves are not quite wilted). Transfer to bowl; add halved tomatoes, feta cheese, and sea salt. Stir and serve warm.

We ate it with salsa lamb burgers and steamed broccoli.

r2d2 Quilt... humble beginnings

The boy has outgrown his current blanket and needs a new comforter. I want(ed) to make him something that- as he grows into the nerd-child he is destined to be (based on his parentage)- he will feel good about for years to come.

Yesterday he and I drew a giant bust of r2d2.

I've already decided that my quilting skills (or lack thereof) are not conducive to actual piecing so I'm going to applique the entire thing.I ironed heavy weight fusible interfacing to some grey fabric and cut out the basic shape.This week I'm going to iron fusible interfacing to the rest of the colors and cut out the remainder of the shapes.I'm toying with the idea of making background color either solid gray or orange and yellow (yellow is his favorite color) for the planet and sky of Tatooine... and I haven't decided if I'm going to incorporate the multiple moons...

Made: Smock!

I'm in smock love with my new smock. SMOCK! Smock is definitely one of those words which starts to sound weird the more you say it (even if you brain say it).


I was cutting up old maternity shirts and using the bottom halves to make skirts for Nora. I still had all these top halves. The hard part (neckline and sleeves) was already done. I cut the green fabric on the bias and joined the triangles (grain matching) to make a long trapazoid.

Added the pocket, fake darts, and bias tape at the bottom.

I'm pretty happy with the final result and have plans to make a second smock, same method.
